With its magical rotation and luxurious design, a MOVA Creation is, for many, a striking novelty piece to start conversations with friends and family. However, we think there is so much more to our creations than just decor. The New York Public Library (NYPL), founded in 1895, is the largest library system in the United States. Naturally, NYPL has become a hub for much more than free books and historical collections; it is now a center for educational innovation and community service, providing resources for local students and even offering resources for job seekers. Located in the Stephen A. Schwarzman building is the Library Shop, which boasts three rooms full of literary-inspired products including our MOVA Creations. A MOVA retailer since 2009, this charming gift shop has become one of the city’s go-to destinations for tourists and locals alike. We spoke with shop buyer Elana Sinsabaugh to learn more:
MOVA: Tell us a little bit about your gift shop.

The shop’s editorial vision focuses on the best in all literary-related products featuring modern and classic books for adults and children, desk items, personal accessories and its own distinctive collection of New York Public Library inspired designs. Spring is in full swing and we wanted to rejoice with a bright color palette for this month’s edition of Color Spotlight. So as always we turned to Pantone – a renowned authority on color and provider of color systems across various industries – for some spring inspiration. We gathered a few of our favorite colors and paired them alongside our equally colorful Butterfly MOVA Globe co-designed with artist Wendy Gold.
Yes, this palette is very, very colorful. However, we think spring is the perfect season to experiment with bright colors. From the Pantone Color Fashion Report, we selected five colors (depicted above left to right) closest to Fiesta, Flash Green, Sand, Buttercup and Limpet Shell. We suggest finding florals, plants, and pottery that match Fiesta and Flash Green to create a balance of high-energy and radiance. Pair Limpet Shell and Buttercup for accessories, patterns, and home accents to create crisp, eye-catching points of interest in your interiors. Use Sand as the surface – it’s a soft, subtle, and naturally earthy foundation for the other colors. We think this color palette is reminiscent of having an afternoon picnic is a flower field, wrapped in the warmth of a sunny day.

Spring is the season of renewal and revival. One of the best ways to invigorate your lifestyle is freshening up your home décor. Contrary to belief that spring décor is too colorful, floral-based and chaotic, we believe that decorating for the new season can be simple, minimal, and fresh while still allowing you to make a bold statement. Here for our 5 tips for adding springtime to your décor, featuring the MOVA Globe.
When you first eyed the magical movement of MOVA Creations, we’re pretty certain that you were mesmerized, confused, and amazed all at the same time. Our solar-powered products tend to draw this kind of reaction regardless of age or interests. Over the years, we’ve been thrilled to receive great feedback from people of all backgrounds, hobbies and design styles. But, how do they appeal to such a wide audience? Let’s delve into the mind of tech geeks, décor enthusiasts, astronomy buffs, and kids:
With new technologies and new gadgets seemingly invented every second of the day, it’s no surprise that the natural movement of our products intrigues the many scientists, physicists, and technology-minded professionals that come across MOVA’s path. Inside each MOVA Creation is a complex mixture of patented technologies that serve as the foundation for our company. Motion mechanism and battery-free operation may seem like simple terms at first; however, the precise engineering required to build the mechanism, let alone manufacture the entire product, is in an advanced world of its own. MOVA Inventor Bill French, a physicist by trade and inspired by our planet, created these rotating spheres to simulate perpetual motion (indefinite motion without an energy source), a task in itself that is technically unachievable. Once a tech geek gets his or her hands on our MOVA Globes, the quest to determine the exact inner workings begins.
“Newton’s Cradle may win the prize for simplicity, but the MOVA globe is the champ when it comes to ingenious engineering.” – Jason England, writing for Cosmos Magazine.
Regardless of the size of your company, it can be difficult to properly give thanks to your employees for all the hard work they put in day after day. If your business contains hundreds or thousands of employees, individually acknowledging each worker’s dedication and contributions in-person may not even be a viable option. Corporate gifting is a thoughtful way to show employees your appreciation. Here is our 3 step guideline to giving the perfect gift to employees:
Do you remember how cool it was to play with magnets as a kid? From attracting metal objects, allowing us to build things, to making its presence on household items, magnets are as practical as they are magical. When we were developing MOVA Creations, we wanted to create products that could truly fascinate and mesmerize. There was already a number of rotating globes on the market (most powered by electrical cords and batteries), so we wanted something that could rotate continuously on its own. That was when we turned to the practicality and wonder of magnets, things many people take for granted, into making this magic possible.
MOVA Globes and Magnets
While the technology of MOVA Creations are most associated with solar power, magnets play instrument role in making the MOVA motion and illusion possible. Because the solar cells hidden inside each MOVA Creation are concealed by the graphics, only so much ambient light can pass through and generate power to drive the rotation. To drive more force for the rotation, we needed a second source of power, and this need is where magnets come in.
